Eligibility

Who is eligible to use WiscMail Plus?

Any department at UW may use WiscMail Plus.  Students and individual faculty or staff members are not eligible for the service.

Delegated Admin

Can outside (non-UW) employees be setup as domain administrators? Some departments retain outside consultants to perform administrative functions.

No. Currently there is no way to access the Delegated Admin interface without a UW NetID.

Could we sync passwords with Wiscmail? Can two mail accounts jdoe@wisc.edu and John.Doe@dept.wisc.edu share a common password?

Currently this ability does not exist.

Can an existing account be renamed? Example John Doe changed to Jon Dough without impacting account operation. This would also be a question of changing last names following marriage.

No. To accomplish an account name change, a new account is created and the contents of the old account are moved to the new account.

Can the confirmation panels appear and disappear automatically?

This feature is under development and may be part of a future release.

When creating users can we automatically populate the NetID field? Could 'Role based' accounts automatically include the NetID of the DA? For users can we look up their WiscMail NetID?

The NetID of the DA can be set for role-based accounts with a domain default. For other users, the ability to look up NetIDs is being investigated.

Mail System

Will WiscMail Plus users be able to see the other users in their domain and address messages to “everyone in domain” or use the domain list as a contacts list?

Currently, no.

Backups

Are WiscMail Plus accounts backed up for email recovery purposes?

WiscMail Plus backups are not offered by default to all domains. Accounts in the mailplus.wisc.edu domain cannot be backed up. To use backups, you must let the WiscMail Plus team know and we will work with you to develop a backup solution that meets your domain's needs.

Migration

Is there a program available that can migrate users from their current mail system to WiscMail Plus?

Migration assistance is avialable to all unique WiscMail Plus domains. Accounts in the mailplus.wisc.edu domain do not qualify for migration services. For an overview of the kinds of migration services typically offered by the WiscMail Plus team, read Migrating to WiscMail Plus.

Can I monitor my WiscMail Plus account(s) from the "My UW Madison" portal?

Yes. The instructions for adding your WiscMail Plus account(s) to My UW can be found at http://helpdesk.doit.wisc.edu/page.php?id=4729.
