WiscChat Features

Real time communications and conferencing

Like all instant messaging applications, WiscChat provides the users with the ability to interact instantly, without the delays of email, or the overhead of a phone call or face-to-face visit. It is not meant to replace any of these tools, but frequently instant messaging is desired when multiple people are working on one project and need the facilities on their desktop computer.

Presence monitoring

When you send a message via email, you don't know when the recipient will actually read it. They may be away from their desk, out on vacation, or for some other reason not reply in a timely fashion. Your roster (a.k.a "buddy list") not only shows a list of your contacts, it also shows their "status." If a user is at their desk and active, you will see that that person is available. If the person wanders away, you will see that they are away. Users can also assign a custom status message. You can also set yourself to Do Not Disturb, and no one will be able to message you.

Server stored roster

You don't need to worry about carrying your roster with you. It is stored on the server, so no matter what client and what computer you connect with, it's the same.

Log into the same account in multiple places

Other instant messaging services don't allow this. This allows you to leave one client logged in at home, and another logged in at work. Use the resource and priority option within your client to manage multiple clients.

Extensible

WiscChat is based on the open standard called XMPP (eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol, a.k.a. Jabber). If you are a developer, libraries exist in any language you choose to automate messaging and many other tasks.
