Hosting

Selecting a URL

When you apply for a web account you will select the URL to use for your site.
  • All sites static web sites can have at least one URL in the form of: www.wisc.edu/yoursite/
  • All dynamic web sites (scripting with ASP, PHP) are required to have a their own domain name Ex: yoursite.wisc.edu

Where "yoursite" is a unique name and usually an abbreviation of your department/organization name.

Additional URL's:

There is no set-up fee for your first URL and additional URLs are available for a one time setup fee of $110. New ___.wisc.edu domains are subject to the Campus Hostmaster for approval.  Existing DNS moves to our service are scheduled after 5PM.

Other Domains

Use of a .com .org .net must be approved by Legal Services before it can be hosted with DoIT.
