UW-Madison engineers and scientists help develop advanced networking capabilities

UW-Madison network engineers from the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) and Computer Science researchers collaborated with Cisco to develop advanced networking capabilities. Cisco announced today their advanced open network environment, with features generally referred to as Software Defined Networking (SDN), which enables a fully programmable network. The UW faculty and staff consulted with Cisco as part of the development team.

“The networking world has anxiously awaited news from Cisco about their roadmap for SDN,” said Bruce Maas, UW Vice Provost for Information Technology and CIO. “This UW collaboration not only allowed us to help Cisco advance its capabilities, but it has positioned us to continue to work together to enhance the infrastructure for research at the UW.”
