STT Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to attend STT trainings?

Undergraduate and graduate students with two or more years remaining on the UW-Madison campus are encouraged to apply. Students with fewer than two years remaining, but who are already employed on campus, are also encouraged to apply.

Can students attend more than one STT training?

Absolutely, but please only apply for one training per application period (i.e. you could attend Web I or Core I during the summer application period, but not both). You are encouraged to apply for another training of interest during the next application period.

How do students earn certification?

Students may earn DoIT Certification through an STT training by successfully completing the program requirements, which are usually comprised of a comprehensive exam, project, graded activities, or a combination of the previous items.  Certification criteria varies for each program.

Why are trainings free?

The Student Technical Training program is funded by the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) as an initiative to equip students with the skills needed to acquire and excel in campus IT support positions.

Where do STT trainings take place?

All STT trainings take place in one of the computer labs at the Computer Science building.  1210 W. Dayton St. on the UW-Madison campus.

Who are the instructors?

The instructors for STT programs are all professionals in their respective fields who are employed by the Division of Information Technology (DoIT).
