Project: Effects of Abuse & Neglect
Customer Need: Develop an interactive learning tool to help social workers familiarize themselves with the stages of typical child development.
Solutions:
Development of Customized Online Learning.
Description: PTE worked in Fall 2007 with Wisconsin's Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) to provide state social workers an online tool for reviewing the basics of child developmental stages. Following this online introduction are classroom interactions to further elaborate on its relevance to the topic of abuse and neglect.
To help with this learning, PTE created online activities that demonstrate children of different ages and their associated behaviors and tendencies, in a way that is engaging and responsive to the user. Within the activities, user choices and selections result in immediate feedback for review, thereby reinforcing proper understandings while correcting misconceptions.

Description: In the summer of 2007, PTE started development on an online training piece for the Division of Quality Assurance (DQA), which is part of Wisconsin's Department of Health and Family Services (DHFS). The motivation of DQA to have this training developed was to aid the broader delivery of training to surveyors of home health agencies, whose purpose it is to ensure the agencies' compliance with federal regulations; this wider delivery of material includes subsequent face-to-face meetings for discussion and elaboration.
With an abundance of material to convey to users, PTE's solution contains a variety of instructional strategies in an effort to keep the content interactive and manageable.

Project: My WebSpace Online Training
Customer Need: Provide My WebSpace tutorials for faculty, staff, and student users with a variety of experience levels.
Solutions:
Development of Customized Online Learning.
Description: In the spring of 2007 the My Webspace service contracted with PTE to develop an online tutorial for its web-based file storage service. Since that time, there have been more than 24,000 visits to the training site. "We are very pleased with the final product. It has been well received by our (faculty, staff, and student) customers," says Cathy Riley, My Webspace program manager.
With My WebSpace offering free webhosting space for these faculty, staff, and students, DoIT needed explanations of the functionality and features of this service that were both informative and engaging. A simple webpage framework combined with Flash-animation narratives accomplished these goals.
