Voice mail allows callers to leave a message for you whether your phone line is busy or unanswered. To set up your mailbox or to retrieve your voice messages, you need these access numbers:
- From your campus office: 5-5500
- From another office on campus: 5-5500, press * then # to get the prompt to enter your 7 digit mailbox number.
- From an off campus number: 265-5500 (or 608-265-5500 if you are calling from outside the 608 area code). When the voice mail system answers, press # followed by your 7 digit campus phone number.
- 1-800 access service – no charge: While traveling, you may use the 800 number to access your voice messages. Dial 1-800-330-8829. When the voice mail system answers, press # followed by your 7 digit campus phone number.
To order voice mail or if you have questions, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. New voice mail orders will usually be completed within three business days, and new users can expect to receive an instructional email when their mailbox is ready.
For authorization purposes, email requests will only be accepted from previously approved departmental staff whose names are on file with DoIT Voice Services. If you don’t know who this is, please use this form to obtain that information. Please include the following information in the email:
- Subscriber’s name
- Email address
- Telephone number
- Room Number
- Campus address
- Operator escape number if desired
Cancel Voice Mail
To cancel voice mail, send an email to email@example.com indicating the phone number of the mailbox being canceled.

|Allows multiple users to have individual private mailboxes on one shared telephone number.Each shared mailbox can have up to 9 private mailboxes.|
|Web PhoneManager||no charge|
|Web PhoneManager is a web interface to your voice mail account settings. This is where you set up the notification settings to get your voice messages in your email. The Web PhoneManager setup instructions are located here: http://kb.wisc.edu/vs/page.php?id=17344|
|Operator escape||no charge|
|Adding operator escape to your mailbox allows a caller to ‘escape’ out of voice mail and transfer to another number. This feature is now available within Web PhoneManager. Click on the Personal Settings tab and then the Phone Numbers tab.|

|Call forwarding after call waiting w/voice mail||no charge|
|If the call is not answered after the second beep, it will be forwarded to voice mail. To activate this feature, contact email@example.com|
|Voice mail special applications|
|Advanced applications within the voice mail system which can include menus to prompt callers for a specific response (press 1 or press 2), or a form mailbox which records spoken responses to specific questions.
