New State Cellular Contract

DoIT Voice Services is happy to announce a new State of Wisconsin contract for Mobile Wide-Area Voice Telephone (cellular) Service. This new contract is currently in effect, including new rates (effective with the May, 2002 billing) and new equipment availability. The contract vendor is once again U.S. Cellular. However, for this contract, the State was divided into four quadrants with a primary and secondary vendor selected for each quadrant. The southeast quadrant that includes UW-Madison was awarded to U.S. Cellular (primary) and Cingular (secondary). The purpose of the secondary vendor is to meet technical requirements not met by the primary vendor; DoIT Voice Services will approve use of the secondary vendor on a case-by-case basis.

The new contract term is three years with an optional two-year extension. The main benefits of the new contract are reduced costs and improved equipment offerings. General information on services, rates and equipment is given below, as well as equipment ordering instructions pertinent to the conversion to this new contract.

New and Old Contract Comparison

Service

As before, cellular service is available by departmental purchase only and DoIT Voice Services coordinates service and equipment purchases through U.S. Cellular. Monthly rates remain the same as for FY02, airtime and roaming rates are reduced, and national toll charges, for call originating within Wisconsin, are included in airtime. There are still no charges to initiate or discontinue service. Please see the Voice Services website (URL given above) for specific rates.

Equipment

The new contract provides for one of three equipment options for each customer. Please carefully read the options described below and follow through with your choice in the near future, options two and three are limited in time and are only scheduled to be available through July 31, 2002.

The first option is to keep your existing cell phone and continue to use your existing service. This requires the end user to do nothing.

The second option is to get a free cell phone from U.S. Cellular. This phone is the Nokia 5165 and includes a battery, ear bud (for hands-free use) and AC/DC battery charger. The Nokia 5165 will remain the property of U.S. Cellular and will be their responsibility to dispose of at the end of the contract. To receive your free cell phone, email Mary Kay Roseneck at marykay.roseneck@uscellular.com. Include the following information:

Current telephone number
Users name
Department name
Delivery address

The third option is to get a cell phone other than the basic Nokia 5165 package. You can receive a one-time credit of $110.00 to be applied to the retail list price of an alternative cell phone. This credit is available only when the cell phone is activated as part of this conversion to the new contract, or during the new contract when new service is established. This cell phone package will include a battery, ear bud (for hands-free use) and AC/DC battery charger. See what cell phones are currently available.

Once you have decided which cell phone to purchase, complete an external requisition that includes the following information:

Type and number of cell phones to be ordered and associated costs
Accessories to be ordered and associated costs
Current telephone number(s)
User(s) name
Department name
Delivery address

The requisition must include a contact person’s name, centrex telephone number, and campus mailing address. If the equipment is to be shipped to the user of the cell phone, specify the user(s) name, centrex telephone number and campus mailing address.

The external requisition should be addressed to:

U.S. Cellular
Attn: Mary Kay Roseneck
P.O. Box 7835
Madison, WI 53707-7835
Fax: (608) 285-7672
Voice: (608) 575-0055

Equipment will be shipped about two weeks from the date UW-Madison Purchasing receives the signed external requisition.
