Telephone service at UW-Madison is provided by a Centrex telephone system that allows five-digit dialing. Most telephone numbers beginning
with 261, 262, 263, 264, 265, 266, 267 and 890 are part of the UW/State Centrex system.
DoIT provides voice mail services and also coordinates the purchase of cellular service and calling cards for campus departments through outside vendors.
DoIT does not sell telephone equipment, but does evaluate equipment for use
with the campus Centrex system. This approved equipment is made available through various vendors.
