Services for Registered Student Organizations


DoIT offers a variety of free and fee-based services to Registered Student Organizations. The Student Information Technology Committee (SITCom) of DoIT can provide additional support to those RSOs funded by the Student Services Finance Committee (SSFC).


Bucky Backup

Bucky Backup offers an inexpensive and convenient way to protect your data and recover it if needed. Bucky Backup is available for individual workstations and for local area networks. It is high-quality, industrial-strength insurance against the loss of your irreplaceable data.

Help Desk

DoIT offers 24-hour help for most of the products and services it provides to the campus. In simple terms support is defined as "answers to questions and diagnosis of problems." Support can also mean incidental software and hardware repair that does not require a service repair or additional purchase.

DoIT supports most of the commonly used computing products and services on campus. Examples are: Internet applications like My UW Madison, email, and browsers. Administrative and Business systems like ISIS, 3270, SFS. Operating Systems and diagnosis of hardware problems. MS Office, Corel Office and many other desktop applications

My WebSpace Group Directory

My WebSpace Group Directories are available for use by departments and groups on campus. A Group Directory is a directory that is not associated with a personal My WebSpace account, but is located in a separate “Group Directories” area of My WebSpace. Each Group Directory has its own identity, trash can, storage quota and bandwidth quota that are separate from that of the users that have access to it.
Cost: SSFC: Free
        Non-SSFC: There is a one-time $30 directory creation fee for each top level directory, but the Group Directory administrators will be able to add as many subdirectories as they need. Each Group Directory will initially be allocated 300MB of storage quota and 1GB per hour of bandwidth quota. Additional space can also be purchased on-line for $10 (also one-time) for each 100 MB.

Network

Connection to Campus Network for those RSOs located in campus buildings.

Repair & Desktop Support (RaDS)

Installs, repairs and supports computer, and networked systems. Services are available by SSFC-funded contract or on a Time-and-Materials basis. We are authorized to provide warranty service for Apple and Dell computers and HP laser printers. We also offer prepaid WiscCare service plans to ensure your coverage is what you need.

  • Limited desktop support consisting of periodic visits, hardware/software modifications, virus/spyware removal, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Advice on purchases to meet service needs.
  • Coordination of other DoIT services.

Cost: SSFC: Free, included in service contract
         Non-SSFC: Normal response: $70 / hour
                           Next day service: $105 / hour
                           2 Hour response: $140 / hour
                           Virus Rescue Flat Rate: $80

Software Training for Students

Software Training for Students offers several services to assist student organizations with their software needs. We can create customized software training sessions specifically tailored to your organizations needs. Past examples include Creating Your Student Organization's Web Page, Creating Publications and Posters for Your SO, Keeping Track of Your SO's Budget and Managing Communication within your SO. Students can attend one of our free instructor-led classes on a variety of software topics. Not time? Go online. Students also have access to over 200 online software classes.

WebSurvey@UW

WebSurvey@UW allows you to create and deploy online surveys from anywhere using the web. WebSurvey@UW provides a fast, effective way to take the pulse of your stakeholders and measure changes in their attitudes or behaviors. It’s as easy as sending an email.
Cost: $50 per year for one survey, up to 5,000 respondents.
        $150 per year for multiple surveys, up to 5,000 respondents total for all surveys
        $100 per year for one survey, up to 10,000 respondents
        $300 per year for multiple surveys, up to 10,000 respondents total for all surveys

WiscCal Plus

WiscCal Plus extends the basic services of WiscCal and is primarily intended for use by groups and departments. An administrative application allows WiscCal Plus Administrators to create resources (ie: conference rooms, vacation calendars, etc.) and role-based accounts.

WiscCare

Prepaid service plans that extend the manufacturer’s warranty on hardware.
Cost: SSFC: WiscCare equipment maintenance contracts for the core-funded RSOs on selected vendor models (assuming the number requesting support does not exceed 30 organizations)
        Non-SSFC: For a fee based on type of hardware

WiscList

WiscList is a self service e-mail distribution list system which allows University of Wisconsin-Madison faculty, staff and students to construct and maintain their own e-mail distribution lists using powerful list distribution software.

WiscMail Plus
