Enterprise Storage

Overview: 
DoIT’s Enterprise Storage service provides storage solutions for UW-Madison enterprise applications/services. A wide range of storage offerings are available to meet your performance and availability needs.

Two levels of Enterprise Storage are available:

  • Enterprise Storage offers archival or mass storage at a low cost 
  • Enterprise Storage Gold meets your high-performing, high-availability needs

Available to:
Departments, groups or service teams at UW-Madison

Features:

Eligibility Requirements:

  • An existing managed server or service
  • A DoIT Number
  • A dedicated IT point of contact*

Backup Options:
DoIT recommends using Bucky Backup to back up your data. If you are interested in an unmanaged backup of your Enterprise Storage content, please contact us for more information.

*DoIT Repair will manage the file share for departments without an IT staff.

Data Security Restrictions:
Enterprise Storage data is stored in DoIT’s Data Center, which provides physical security. However, the department, group or service team is solely responsible for the content of their data and meeting all associated privacy or security standards, such as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). DoIT has no knowledge or control of the content that is put onto Enterprise Storage. Please contact us with questions regarding data security.

General support is available through the DoIT Help Desk.  For on-site support, contact DoIT Repair.

Rates:

  • Tier 1: High performance; high availability fiber channel storage. $20.50 /GB per year (includes offsite mirroring) plus SAN connection fee* of $600/year.
  • Tier 2: Mid-tier, fiber channel based storage that provides good performance and availability. $15 /GB per year (includes offsite mirroring) plus SAN connection fee* of $600/year.
  • Tier 3: Mid-tier, storage that uses ATA based drives that offers good performance and availability. $4.50 /GB per year (includes offsite mirroring) plus SAN connection fee* of $600/year.
  • Tier 4: Intended for those who have archival or mass storage needs. $2 /GB per year (includes offsite mirroring)

Enterprise Storage is charged monthly based on usage to your DoIT Number. 

* Storage Area Network (SAN) fee includes the cost of the fibre channel HBA(s) and the SAN switch infrastructure.
