Q: Should I buy Windows 7?
A: Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system will be released in late October to the general public. Based on early testing, the Windows 7 launch seems to be more stable and less problematic than Microsoft's last operating system launch, Windows Vista. But, as with most new technology, early adopters often run into unforeseen issues.
The Help Desk has posted a list of compatibility issues at helpdesk.wisc.edu/page.php?id=11976. If this list includes software that you rely on, you might want to delay your upgrade to Windows 7 until the issues are resolved.
If you use software that is not on the list, check with the software manufacturer to see if that software has been tested for Windows 7 compatibility.
The DoIT Tech Store expects to make Windows 7 available with special educational pricing in early November.
