My WebSpace getting a facelift
Friday, March 13, 2009Since My WebSpace was introduced to campus in 2004, nearly 80% of campus (49,611 users) has taken advantage of this technology to store and share files, collaborate with colleagues and publish web sites. But while it’s been an extremely useful tool, some have been asking for a more intuitive, user-friendly features.
The My WebSpace service team is currently testing a new interface with student, faculty and staff volunteers. When testing is complete, and the service team fixes identified problems, a new product will be introduced to campus.
Among the likely new features:
- A new interface that uses right-click functions on files and folders
- Wiki functionality
- An advanced upload feature that enables drag and drop for files and folders
- The ability to send email links using web-based email or your email client
- Drop box functionality
- Folder and email Wizards to guide users through the setup process
- RSS feeds for files and folders
To see a sneak preview, go to new.mywebspace.wisc.edu. And if you do have feedback, contact the DoIT Help Desk at (608) 264-HELP (4357) or email help@doit.wisc.edu by Friday, March 27 to submit comments or ask questions.
Please note: Because this is a test project, any files you create or change will NOT be transferred to the live production environment if/when campus officially transfers to the new My WebSpace. Consider this a “play area” to test the new functionality.
