Services - Digitization Service

The DMC offers a digitization service for UW-Madison instructional purposes. These services are offered per semester, free of charge for UW-Madison faculty, staff, graduate students and researchers using the digitized materials for instructional purposes.

The DMC will complete one of the following:

  • Digitize 10 hours of video/audio (DV, VHS, Hi 8, audio cassette, 8mm & 16mm film) per semester
  • Scan up to 300 slides (35mm slides) per semester
  • Scan up to 100 individual pages for PDFs (without OCR) per semester

Policies

  1. Materials take up to TWO WEEKS to be digitized. Plan to get your materials to us accordingly if you need them by a particular date.
  2. Materials are digitized on a first come, first serve basis. If we have a full queue of projects, we may ask you to leave your contact information so we can contact you when the queue has an opening.
  3. Materials will be digitized for instructional purposes only. Preferably to be used either within Learn@UW or for projection in a timetable classroom.
  4. Only basic digitizing is offered - not production work. We will capture a videotape and compress it for streaming, but we can not author a web page or edit the video for you. Slide or document scans will also not be edited.
  5. Slides are not guaranteed in the order we received them. Due to the constraints of our batch slide scanner, slides must be sorted by material type. When your slides are returned they may not be in the order we received them. Please number slides if putting them back in the original order is important to you.
  6. You must provide us with media to store your digitized materials on. The DMC does not offer space on our machines nor servers to store your materials.

Storage media is available the DoIT Tech Store.

When you drop of your materials to us you will be asked to sign a form stating you agree to the terms listed above. We will contact you via your preferred method when you materials have been digitized.

Please call (608) 265-4817 if you have questions regarding your materials and/or eligibility.
