We all, by and large, got up to where we are by going to school and listening to our professors and writing down what they say, and taking exams. But all the studies have shown that active learning is the way to go, and taking at least some of each lecture, setting it aside for the students to think on their own, is a good thing. Especially in certain courses, the Internet really allows you to do that in a way that’s not available without the Internet. I find I enjoy teaching that way, and the students really are engaged, and they prefer it. And I feel like they are excited to come to class, and they don’t come and sit in the back and open the newspaper up. They are interested, and I think it works really well.
