UW Remote Connection Charges
VPN Customers
Client VPN services are delivered using split tunnels. There is no DoIT charge for access, however, the customer procures and pays for a broadband connection with a commercial provider.
LAN-LAN VPN service. There is no DoIT charge for access provided the customer’s connection rate is less than 1MB, Customer is responsible for circuit costs, DoIT approved equipment, DoIT setup/installation and SmartNet maintenance on equipment. DoIT support for these connections is during normal business hours (8-5). Departments looking for 24X7 support must upgrade to a dedicated T1 circuit (minimum).
Dedicated Circuits (point-point). DoIT will charge usage fees for
dedicated circuits. These fees cover field services support and
transport of traffic across the campus network. Fees are based on
the WiscNet per MB transit rate ($3200 in FY04), multiplied by 1.25
(for transport and field services support). Departments are responsible
for circuit charges (contracted directly with commercial provider),
DoIT recommended equipment at their site, and a one-time port/setup
charge for connecting to the campus network. Port/setup fees vary
based on the type of connection. T1 connections are charged a flat
1MB rate regardless of usage.
