Network Infrastructure

The Network Infrastructure consists of all the fiber optic, copper and coax cabling as well as the telecommunication rooms used to support the Campus Network and other networking functions on campus. The Network Infrastructure Group is responsible in developing standards and managing activities related to the network infrastructure for building construction, remodeling and network upgrade projects.

The Field Services portion of the Network Infrastructure Group provides onsite support of the campus network equipment and infrastructure. In most cases this work is performed in collaboration with the department’s Authorized Agent. Field Services provides training to Authorized Agent on appropriate procedures and processes for managing the in-building network.

The Network Infrastructure Group has developed standards for:

  • Signal conduit and maintenance pits
  • Fiber optic cabling for outside and inside plant
  • Unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cabling for voice and data connections
  • Telecommunication room space, power and HVAC
  • Voice service distribution inside buildings
