My UW Madison Terms of Service
We are excited to offer you this service and hope that you will find it beneficial in your studies and employment or your application to the University. In addition to the terms for computer usage that you agreed to when you activated your NetID, there are some additional rules specific to usage within My UW Madison.
By logging in and using My UW Madison, you are agreeing to adhere to the following terms of service:
I. Appropriate Use
Individuals using this service are required to:
- Follow the “Guidelines for Appropriate Use of University of Wisconsin-Madison Information Technology Resources”.
- Protect the privacy and confidentiality of student, patient, employee and other institutional information, as required for example by FERPA (privacy of student information), and HIPAA (privacy of patient information).
- Comply with all other applicable University policies, State and Federal laws, including for example: copyright law, and the student code of conduct. For a list of other relevant policies, visit http://www.cio.wisc.edu/policies/.
II. System Use
My UW Madison is available to UW-Madison applicants, students, faculty and staff with an active NetID.
- You are responsible for securely managing your NetID/Password. This includes not sharing your NetID/Password with any other person including anyone representing the Division on Information Technology (DoIT). For information on protecting your NetID/Password and secure computing visit http://www.cio.wisc.edu/security/.
- You are responsible for complying with the Terms of Service of any services provided via MY UW Madison such as MyWebSpace and WiscMail and WiscCal.
- You are responsible for any modification you make to any editable features of My UW Madison. For example, adding links to My Bookmarks.
- Unauthorized authentication attempts or misuse of My UW Madison should be reported to Badger Incident Response Team (BadgIRT). For information, visit http://www.cio.wisc.edu/security/report/.
- If you identify issues concerning My UW Madison functionality, content or access, you can report the issue to the DoIT Help Desk by calling 608-264-HELP or submitting an on-line form at http://helpdesk.doit.wisc.edu/
III. Privacy Statement
UW-Madison respects the legitimate privacy interests of My UW Madison Users within appropriate limits for educational, ethical and legal reasons, subject to the following:
- My UW Madison administrators routinely monitor the volume of My UW Madison traffic for system management purposes.
- Usage may also be subject to security testing and monitoring.
- If the University receives a credible report that a violation has occurred, or if, in the course of managing the service, discovers evidence of a violation, then the matter will be referred for investigation, University disciplinary action, and/or criminal prosecution.
