Enabling a Classlist

Before your classlist is ready to use:

  • instructors should verify that their correct email address is listed at http://www.wisc.edu (same as payroll record) - if not, contact departmental payroll office.

  • once an instructor is added to a course in ISIS and at least one student is registered, a classlist will be created automatically.

  • an email will always be sent to the instructor's work email address as listed in IADS. If more than one work email address exists we will give selection priority to the "@wisc.edu" address.

  • as part of the email message you will be directed to a web page (Classlist Utility) where you will be given the list name and the ability to enable the list.

  • this email will contain information on how to enable the list and include a list of all classlist administrators (instructors). You will receive multiple emails if you are the instructor for more than one course or section.

  • a classlist may have more than one administrator.  Any of these administrators can enable the list.
  • login to the Classlist Utility requires your NetID and password.

  • once the list is enabled the list is ready to use.

Note:  If at any time a course does not have an instructor listed in ISIS, the classlist will be disabled.  Once an instructor is reassigned to the course, they will then receive an email asking them to enable the classlist.

Classlist Naming Convention

(Classlist names are created automatically and can not be changed)

The Classlist name consists of five parts:

  • The first designation corresponds to the abbreviated Timetable Department Name (chem, aae, econ, law, latin)
  • The second designation corresponds to the course number (100, 101)
  • The third designation corresponds to the section number (such as seminar or lecture 1, or discussion 301, etc.)
  • The fourth designation corresponds to the term (such as f05, s06, su06, and w06)
  • The fifth designation corresponds to the session code if applicable (such as ACC, DHH, etc.)

 Examples of list names:

Economics 101 lecture 2 Fall 2006 would be econ101-2-f06@lists.wisc.edu.
