Creating a AdvisorList

Before your AdvisorList is ready to use:  

  • login to the AdvisorList Utility requires your NetID and password.

  • advisors should verify that their correct advisees are listed at http://advisorlists.wisc.edu - if not, contact your Departmental office.
     
  • as part of the list creation, you will be shown your email address that you will be able to use to send to the list. If you have more than one personal email address that you would like to use, you may now add them prior to the list being created.

  • decide if you want your additional personal email addresses to receive emails from the advisorlists

  • select a name for the email list which will include ALL advisees, verify that the name is available and then create it.

  •  List names much be 28 alphanumeric characters or less, no special characters (e.g. % $ * & ^ etc.), and only _ (underscore) or - (dash) are allowed

  • once this primary list has been created this completes the initial phase of the list configuration and your list is ready to use

  • additional sublists may now be created based on such criteria as term, class, primary department, degree expected, graduation date and GPA.

  • each time new criteria is selected you must then select a new sublist name.
     
  • Note:  If at any time a AdvisorList does not have any advisees listed in ISIS, the advisorlist will still be useable but will only have the Advisor's email address on the list.

AdvisorList Naming Convention

(AdvisorList names are created by the Advisor)

The AdvisorList name consists of four parts:

* no more than 28 alphanumeric characters
* no special characters (e.g. %, $, *, & ! etc.
* only _ (underscore) or - (dash) are allowed
* first part of list will always start with adv

Examples of advisorlist names:

French 201 would be adv-french201@lists.wisc.edu (Main List)

French 201 Fall 2007 would be adv-french201f07@lists.wisc.edu (sublist)

French 201 Fall 2007 only Seniors would be adv-french201f07senior@lists.wisc.edu (sublist)

French 201 Fall 2007 Letters & Science would be adv-french201f07LS@lists.wisc.edu (sublist)
