The Software Training for Students (STS)/Student Online Course Support (SOCS) Service Leader is responsible for managing the STS and SOCS services, with a goal of providing a high quality service to clients. This involves applying strategic planning, human resource, project management, budgeting and communication and marketing skills as well as daily program operations around quality web, multimedia, design and instructional technologies training programs. This position reports to the Assistant Director of the Professional Technical Education (PTE) group within Academic Technology of the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
STS offers free, non-credit, campus technology skills training and project troubleshooting support for students. The Service Leader will also coordinate the Student Online Course Support (SOCS) program. This program recruits, screens and trains students seeking campus jobs supporting online courses. SOCS workshops will occur during campus breaks and consist of intensive, two-week, all-day training courses led by PTE staff and STS trainers.
This position requires participating in or leading various campus groups that are working to use technology to improve teaching and learning on campus. Campus partners may include: L&S Learning Support Services (LSS), UW Libraries, ASM (Associated Students of Madison), GUTS (Greater University Tutoring Service), the Writing Center, Housing, SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising and Registration), the Dean of Students, the Graduate School, the Multicultural Student Center (MSC), the Social Sciences Computing Cooperative (SSCC), DoIT and more. The STS/SOCS Service Leader will also work with partner institutions in the Big Ten through the CIC Technology Training Group.
