Access to Data

Many UW-Madison business units rely on easy access to data to perform administrative tasks essential to their job functions (e.g., grant submissions, alumni communications, etc.). This data resides in multiple systems across campus. This page is dedicated to being a repository of information of the numerous data services available to the UW Madison community.

Data Warehouses / Query Repositories:

  • InfoAccess - A subject oriented, point-in-time, inquiry only collection of University data.  The warehouse data is extracted or derived from the production databases of the University's information systems.
  • Query Library - The Query Library is a repository of pre written queries available to faculty and staff working with benefits, curricular, human resource, payroll, and student data.
  • SFS (Shared Financial Systems) via WISDM (WISconsin Data Mart) - UW System Shared Financial System (SFS) uses the PeopleSoft Financial package. WISDM is a web application providing authorized users (including those who do not have PeopleSoft desktop clients) with a means of retrieving, downloading, and summarizing a large number of data views and online reports from the financial system.

Operational Systems:

  • ISIS (Integrated Student Information System) - The "behind-the-scenes" software program providing data to assist UW-Madison staffers in their efforts to oversee the continued enhancement of functionality for student administrative services spanning everything from SOAR and admissions through graduation and alumni records.
  • DoIT Mainframe 3270 - Houses several critical applications, including accounting, budgeting, payroll, and purchasing.
  • DoIT CBS (Central Business System) - Powered by Oracle Applications E-Business Suite, "CBS" provides a framework for managing DoIT accounting and financial transactions.
  • CHRIS (Classified Human Resources Information System) - A web based application system built under the auspices of the Classified Personnel Office (CPO) within the Office of Human Resources is to automate and facilitate entry, update and other processing of position descriptions for employee positions at the UW Madison.
