Bucky Backup

Cost Calculator for a standard incremental backup schedule

Data size in gigabytes:
Number of File revisions:
Number of months of retention:
Estimated compression percentage: %
Monthly growth percentage: %
Monthly deletion percentage: %
Number of months into the future:

First month's backup cost: $0.00
12th month's backup cost: $0.00
Total cost for the first 12 months: $0.00

Notes:
  • The cost of storing one megabyte of data for one month is $0.0015.
  • Your storage costs are calculated once per month.
  • To see cost for indefinite retention of deleted files, enter 0 for the "Monthly deletion percentage."
  • These calculated costs assume you instantly have your maximum number of file revisions backed up for every file. Your actual costs will be slightly lower depending on how frequently your files are modified and how frequently your data gets backed up.
  • All Bucky Backup node data is stored in 2 geographic locations for extra redundancy. Charges are only based on amount of storage at primary location.

Definitions:

Data size in gigabytes

The amount of data you want to backup, in gigabytes. There are 1024 megabytes per gigabyte.

Number of File revisions

The number of past revisions of each file you want to keep around. For example, if you enter '3', you always have the option of restoring any of the last 3 revisions of any given file that were backed up. '3' and '5' are the most common values.

Number of months of retention

The number of months you want to be able to restore a deleted file. For example, if you enter '6', you have 6 months to restore a deleted file. This time period begins immediately after deletion. When this time period is up, the deleted file is deleted from Bucky Backup as well. '6' and '12' are the most common values.

Estimated compression percentage

How much do you estimate your data will compress? The default 5% will be a very conservative estimate for most machines. You typically won't know what the real value will be for your machine until after you've completed one full backup.

Monthly growth percentage

How much do you estimate the amount of data you will be backing up will grow each month? Think of this in terms of newly created files, and do not take file deletions into account when entering this value. This is used to help estimate how much your backup bills will be further down the road.

Monthly deletion percentage

How much do you estimate the amount of data you will be backing up will be deleted each month? Think of this in terms of files deleted off your computer each month, and do not take file creations into account when entering this value. This is used to help estimate how much your backup bills will be further down the road.

Number of months into the future

How many months into the future do you want to predict your backup costs?

First month's backup cost

This is the estimated cost for your first month's backup based on the data you've entered. Typically, your first month's bill will be considerably lower than this. (Unless you think all of your files will be modified & backed up "Number of File revisions" times already within the first month.)

12th month's backup cost

This is the estimated cost for your 12th month's backup based on the data you've entered. Typically, the greater the "Number of months into the future," the more accurate this cost will be.

Total cost for the first 12 months

This is the estimated combined cost for the first 12 months of backups based on the data you've entered. Typically, the greater the "Number of months into the future," the more accurate this cost will be.
