Software And Load Testing (SALT)

In general, the cost of fixing an application problem in production is roughly four times the cost of fixing it in a testing cycle. Software testing removes defects, increases system reliability and reduces overall application costs. The aim of DoIT’s Software and Load Testing (SALT) service is to improve the quality of software applications deployed on UW campuses by promoting proven testing methodologies and automated testing tools. SALT aids in functional, regression and load testing of web-based applications. It is available to anyone who is testing for UW-Madison applications and/or UW-System applications that are hosted and managed at UW-Madison.

SALT provides access to the following tools and services: testing software (Empirix e-Tester, e-Load and e-Manager), self-help documentation, and hands-on consultation and/or training on using the tools. In addition, SALT is collaborating with DoIT security and accessibility testing services (UW-Madison only) for those who want to expand the scope of their testing.

There is no charge for using the Empirix testing software. DoIT consultation time is charged out at the regular hourly rate, though please note that the availability of consultation may be limited at this time. The SALT Team anticipates providing a full spectrum of services in the coming year.

To request access to the service and accompanying tools, please go to the SALT Registry Application. Please contact the SALT Team with any questions.
