This position is responsible for providing network and telecommunications infrastructure support for instructional, research and outreach activities related to two major wide-area networks (WANs): the University of Wisconsin - Madison (UW-Madison) off-campus network and WiscNet, a statewide research and education network serving Wisconsin K-20 education institutions, governments and hospitals. The person in this role also provides advanced support for campus researchers requiring connectivity to national/international networks such as Internet2 and ESNet and represents UW-Madison at select regional or national events.
The position reports to the UW-Madison Division of Information Technology (DoIT) Assistant Director of WAN Services within the Network Services Department, and functions under general supervision within a team. This person will be a primary Domain Name System (DNS) system administrator, perform switching and routing infrastructure management as well as develop and support network management and monitoring tools.
