Associate CIO/Director

This Associate Director will provide senior leadership to the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) management team with primary responsibility for leading middleware, security and architectural initiatives as well as user services functions providing excellent customer service. This Associate Director/Associate CIO will also provide campus and system leadership for many technology policy and implementation issues. The Associate Director/Associate CIO works in partnership with one other Associate Director/Associate CIO and with the CIO in providing overall strategy and leadership to divisional IT initiatives and operations

Major duties and responsibilities of this position include:

Serve as one of two associate directors reporting to the Chief Information Officer. This Associate will take a senior leadership role in substantial technology
related activities on campus and across the Division of Information Technology.

20% This Associate will provide campus and system leadership for many technology policy and implementation issues including:

Provide leadership to system-wide IT initiatives that involve middleware and security services, where Madison is looked to as the major provider of those services. Plan for and implement selected system-wide services in these areas.

Assure that a strong IT security program is developed and implemented and that effective policies are in place campus wide

Lead and facilitate the development of IT policies, both divisional and campus wide.

Provide leadership for campus participation in the development of My-UW-Madison portal services and policies.

7% Take a key leadership role in building and maintaining a community of IT service providers across the campus. The Associate will be the high-level point person for addressing campus concerns and issues about DoIT directions or services across campus and throughout the university system.

40% This Associate will be specifically responsible at this time for providing direction to the following departments within the Division.

The Department of Enterprise Internet Services, which includes:

IT Architecture - works with all parts of DoIT and with the entire campus to identify best technology solution for IT infrastructure and for selected enterprise wide applications

IT Security Services - service that is becoming much more proactive to assure a more secure campus IT environment

Middleware - addressing and developing applications to support identify management and authentication and authorization services

Internet Infrastructure Applications - includes e-mail, calendaring, web site hosting, portal infrastructure

Department of User Services which is developing a Unified Customer Center to coordinate the services offered by the following units:

The Help Desk - 24x7x365 service with a telephone call center, a walk in help service? and includes public computing labs

The Showroom -a pre-sales consulting center

The Repair and Desktop Support Center (RaDS) - authorized service center for Dell and Apple computers and HP printers, as well as a center that provides contract desktop support services to campus units

The Tech Store (Product Sales) - resale center that sells $15 million dollars worth of product a year and also acts as a distribution center for free software such as virus protection software for the campus community).

Product Management - coordinates the purchase of large-volume information technology-related hardware and software products to University departments, faculty, staff and students.

Logistics - provides delivery and mailing services for DoIT for UW-Madison and UW-System customers.

20% This position will also have responsibility for overseeing the personnel and organizational services of the Division; the Student Initiative Technology Committee Services; Communications; and the Division?s process improvement and project management initiatives, both directly and through the facilitation of collaboration among the directors.

8% Along with the CIO and the other Associate, assure that DoIT programs, services and operations are appropriate, effective and efficient.

5% Represent the University in national, regional and other forums in her/his areas of responsibility and expertise.

Qualifications: A bachelor's degree required; masters/PhD preferred. Ten or more years of progressively responsible IT experience with at least six of those years in a senior leadership capacity in an IT organization and three or more years in higher education IT leadership. Well qualified candidates will have a successful record of achievement, leadership, and success in administrative roles and a commitment to excellence in IT. Experience in a public university setting and participation in system wide activities is desirable but not mandatory.
