The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) offers a great workplace with many opportunities for student employees. You’ll not only earn money, you’ll also learn valuable skills for your resume when you graduate. We are currently hiring customer-friendly, part-time student staff. Don’t worry if you don’t know much about computers. Depending on the type of job, if you have the technical aptitude and an interest in providing exceptional customer service, we will train to get you up to speed on the skills you will need.

REPAIR AND DEPARTMENTAL SUPPORT:
If your computer needs repair, RaDS students are often the ones to do it (pun intended). RaDS installs, repairs, and supports computers and networked systems for everyone throughout campus.

TECH STORE:
Are you retail-oriented and do you like to help people find the right computer equipment? If this is you, why not work at the newly remodeled DoIT Tech Store?

HELP DESK:
The Help Desk hires the most students at DoIT and has both day and evening hours. Main categories include:

  • Support Specialist I: Entry level position providing phone and walk-in assistance for basic computer problems.
  • Support Specialist II: Intermediate position supporting and resolving more advanced computer problems via phone, walk-in and email.

COMPUTER LABS:
DoIT staffs 17 general-access computer labs around campus. As a lab consultant you will provide entry-level information and technical assistance to Lab users. To apply, visit the Help Desk web page.

SOFTWARE TRAINING FOR STUDENTS (STS):
STS offers free technology training to registered UW-Madison students. Student trainers are responsible for teaching 2-hour classes to students, developing curriculum and assisting with the integration of technology in academic classes.  To apply for a Software Trainer position, send your cover letter and resume by email.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ACADEMY (ITA):
ITA is an innovative, 4-year pre-college technology access and training program for talented students of color and economically disadvantaged students attending Madison Public Schools. ITA’s mission is to prepare students for technical, academic, and personal excellence in today’s Information Age.

ITA hires students in a few categories: Technology Trainer, Tutor, and Office Assistant. The technology trainer team is the largest student staff at ITA. In this position you teach various computer and technology classes, as well as research and propose short technology workshops to teach through the year, including summers.

DIGITAL MEDIA CENTER:
The DMC provides free resources to faculty, staff & graduate students across campus. Student employees help customers with video editing, web design, Learn@UW, or anything involving multimedia. Visit the DMC home page for info, and to apply.
