DoIT Community Outreach
The Division of Information Technology is a strong advocate of "The Wisconsin Idea" --
that the borders of the University are the borders of the State of Wisconsin. As such,
we lend expertise and service beyond the borders of the UW-Madison whenever possible and
practical. Current outreach projects range from technical, hardware and network service
to staff mentoring and training. Here is a complete list, with links to descriptions or
the project sites.
The Wisconsin Health Alert Network (WI HAN) is a communications system for Wisconsin's
Public Health departments, hospitals, clinics, emergency rooms, laboratories, law enforcement,
fire service, EMS, volunteer and other health agencies. DoIT provides all the development, hosting
and network connectivity, in conjunction with WiscNet.
An innovative, 4-year pre-college technology access and training
program for talented students of color and economic disadvanage
within the Madison Public School District. The mission is to prepare
students for technical, academic, and personal excellence in today's
Information Age. DoIT staff serve as mentors; DoIT provides training
and works with vendors to provide equipment and software for the
students to use.
Wisconsin educational network redesign — WiscNet continues to participate in the strategy,
planning, and redesign for the State of Wisconsin’s next generation educational network.
